What is the Law Firm Challenge? The Law Firm Challenge is a friendly competition that encourages 100% of Akron Law Alumni within participating firms to make a contribution of $100 or more to Akron Law’s annual fund. Participating firms will compete with other firms to meet this goal by the end of the challenge period. Success in the challenge is based solely on participation, not dollars raised.
When is the Law Firm Challenge? The Law Firm Challenge period will run from March 4 – April 12, 2013. During this time, Akron Law will provide weekly e-mail updates to a representative from each participating firm detailing the status of each firm’s participation. The weekly updates will provide the firm representative with a list of whom from the representative’s firm has given and who is yet to give, and will also include the general participation rates of competing firms. Participants may also monitor their progress on the Akron Law website during the challenge period.
What gifts count toward my firm’s participation rate? All gifts of $100 or more made to Akron Law from July 1, 2012 (the start of the fiscal year) to April 12, 2013 (the close of the Law Firm Challenge) count toward your firm’s participation rate.
While we encourage you to make a gift to the Dean’s Club, Akron Law’s annual giving program, pledge payments, gifts made to an established fund, or sponsorship for Akron Law events (such as the Akron Law Awards & Reunion Dinner, if payment is made before the close of the challenge period) count toward your firm’s participation rate.
What is the Dean’s Club? The Dean’s Club is Akron Law’s annual giving program, which supports nearly every aspect of the law school. The Dean’s Club funds faculty research and scholarship initiatives, our trial and moot court competition teams, the law review, our clinical programs, and the daily operations of Akron Law. It also provides funding for student scholarships and covers over 25% of the cost of educating each Akron Law student, the amount that isn’t covered by tuition or public funding.
Why should my firm participate in the Law Firm Challenge? Participation in the Law Firm Challenge showcases your firm’s support of Akron Law. It is also a way for you to promote your firm, reconnect with Akron Law, bond with your Akron Law alumni colleagues, and keep current with the happenings at Akron Law. Making a gift to Akron Law is a way of showing your appreciation for the legal education that you received.
Will my firm be recognized for participating in the Law Firm Challenge? Yes. Participating firms will be recognized on the Akron Law website, in our monthly e-letter, and in Akron Law, our alumni magazine. Akron Law will host a reception for all firms that exceed 50% participation, where firms reaching 100% participation will be presented with a plaque in appreciation of their accomplishment.
Firms exceeding 50% participation will also receive a ¼ page advertisement in the 2013 Akron Law Alumni Awards & Reunion Dinner program. The dinner will be held on May 17, 2013, and over 250 alumni are expected to attend.
